Chennai Super Kings will look to get back to winning ways when they take on Kings XI Punjab in Indian Premier League (IPL) Match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai Today.
CSk currently top the IPL Point table having won three out of their four matches however, they know a loss against KXIP could see them move down the table with Sunrisers Hyderabad breathing down their neck.
Chennai suffered a big blow ahead of the match as all-rounder Dwayne Bravo was sitting out of the tournament for two weeks. Bravo suffered the injury during the team’s loss to Mumbai Indians on Wednesday.
The two previous matches at MA Chidambaram stadium have produced contrasting performances. While Royal Challengers Bangalore were bundled out for 70, Rajasthan Royals made CSK sweat before going down by eight runs on a better surface for the batters
The CSK’s bowlers will be wary of Chris Gayle’s power-hitting provided he plays after missing the game against Delhi Capitals on April 1. With Gayle sitting out in their last match, KXIP showed it is not about the hard-hitting West Indian alone as KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal put their hands up.
Punjab would hope that they continue to shine. KXIP skipper Ashwin, who was part of CSK before the franchise let him go, would be looking to put his best foot forward against his IPL franchise.
Ravichandran Ashwin: It will be the first time that Ashwin will be playing in a different jersey at Chepauk in the IPL. The crowd will be happy to see one of the city’s favourite cricketing sons back, although the loyalties will remain with the local side to carve out a victory.
Sam Curran: Having bagged a hat-trick against Delhi Capitals in the previous fixture, the England international has all but cemented his spot in the team for this match. At a surface where spinners are bound to do well, the left-arm pacer’s variations are going to be key in containing the likes of Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav.
